From our family farm to your cozy home.
We are proud to say that fiber for our limited edition Maine Alpaca Blanket is grown on our family alpaca farm and then sheared, sorted, and spun right here in Maine. From our farm to your couch, this blanket is sure to become a cherished family heirloom. As of 2017: blanket woven in New England.
We designed our exclusive alpaca blanket with 3 things in mind:
- Style: whether you love eye-catching stripes or classic twill best, we have a design to suit your home
- Warmth: alpaca fiber is warmer than wool, hypoallergenic and lanolin-free (no itch, we promise!)
- Durability: our fiber is as durable as our farm animals, which means this blanket will last you many, many winters
What are the benefits of alpaca fiber?
Soft, soft, soft!
Alpaca fleeces are rated on a scale of 1 to 6 (1 being the finest). This means that the individual fibers are less than 20 microns in diameter (14 is about as low as they go). The best fiber is sheared off the sides and back of our animals. Once you get to grade 5, you can really feel the difference with your fingertips. When we shear our animals each spring, we only use fiber in the grade 1 to 4 range to give us a very soft blanket.
Lanolin-free
Not only is our alpaca fiber incredibly soft and itch-free, it is as lightweight as your favorite cashmere sweater (without the cost). Since alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin (natural wax produced by wool-bearing animals), it requires less processing before we can spin it to create your favorite products.
Lightweight
It has been said that alpaca fiber is 5x as warm as wool and as light as cashmere! It makes the perfect breathable material for babies or winter wear that is crafted to last many years.
Natural color
We’re big fans of doing things the natural way, and our blankets are crafted using the natural, undyed fiber colors of our animals. It’s better for our animals, and it’s better for you at home!
Especially soft for babies, our Maine Alpaca Blanket makes a perfect gift for newborns and expecting mothers. You can also give the gift of warmth to your favorite newlywed couple or mom-to-be.
